Colocation
ANSWERS
  1. If I'm in Chicago, can I tour the datacenter or service my machines?
No, to ensure the safety of our clients and equipment alike, no one except our employees are allowed in the datacenter. This creates a secure environment where data and hardware are safe. If you need to service a machine, our skilled technicians are always available to assist you. We also have remote hand and eye (remote kvms) that you can use to access your servers as if you were standing right in front of it. If you need to add or replace hardware in your server, we can do that as well.

As an added security precaution, all servers must be shipped to our Denver facility first so we can inspect equipment before it enters the Chicago datacenter. This makes the datacenter even less vulnerable to terrorist and hacking attempts. Servers received at our Denver facility are opened, inspected, and overnighted to our Chicago datacenter the same day Denver receives it.

  2. What is colocation?
Colocation is when we provide you with space, power and bandwidth to host your own server. You build or buy the server, send it to us and we host it for you. You have complete ownership of the server, we mearly rent the space, bandwidth and power needed to host your server. This is a great advantage to those who already have a server but do not have the bandwidth capabilities that a datacenter such as ourselves might have. You can put any hardware you want in your server without restriction as long as it fits in the space you rent from us.

  3. Why do I need colocation, can't I just host my server at home or office?
Colocation is essential for those who already own a server but don't have enough bandwidth to host it themselves. Most homes and offices have very limited bandwidth and servers chew up a lot in a short amount of time. DSL and Cable internet connections are also not the most reliable; they go up and down all the time due to problems outside your control. Cable connections are shared with your neighbors so when they're all using the internet, your connection will slow to a crawl. With colocation, you do not have to worry about downtime or speed. Our network has one of the best uptime records of most hosts and our speeds are lightning fast.

Home and office connections just don't compare to what a real datacenter can provide. In addition to speed and uptime, our datacenter is limited to employees only; no client will ever enter the datacenter for any reason. This ensures a secure environment where you know no one will touch or steel your equipment.
